We will be tasting CASA DO VALLE VINHO VERDE. The Vinhos Verdes are light, fresh, and intended for drinking within a year. At less than 1 bar of CO2 pressure they do not quite qualify as semi-sparkling wines but do have a definite pétillance. The white Vinho Verde is very fresh, due its natural acidity, with fruity and floral aromas, depending on the grape variety. The white wines are lemon- or straw-coloured, around 9-11% alcohol, and are made from local grape varieties Loureiro, Arinto, Trajadura, Avesso and Azal. pétillant; pétillance [pay-tee-YAWN] - A French wine-tasting term meaning "slightly sparkling," referring to wines with light effervescence. Pétillance is the noun form. The Italian equivalent of pétillant is frizzante; the German is spritzig. - © Copyright Barron's Educational Services, Inc. 1995 based on THE WINE LOVER'S COMPANION, by Ron Herbst and Sharon Tyler Herbst.
VILLA MALACARI ROSSO CONERO - 100% Montepulciano - The grapes, picked when ripe, are vinified under the cap vaults of the 17th century wine cellar and the wines are refined in the small casks and oak barrels in the wine cellar and in the caves excavated in the tufa of Villa Malacari. Please join us between 4:30 and 6:30 to explore these two wines. If you are working on the 100 Club you will be able to mark a couple more off.
