What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

Week of June 6, 2009 - What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

THIS WEEK'S TASTING - SATURDAY JUNE 6 - 11 am until 6 pm

We are happy to welcome back CANYON'S EDGE WINERY and their new look! Join us as we taste through their wines. MY SISTERS MY FRIENDS - ROSE OF SYRAH - $9.99 (reg $10.99) - displays an array of fruit from apples, pears, strawberry to raspberries. A mildly sweet wine with a light dry finish.

SAGE BRUSH RED - $10.99 (reg. $12.99) - This Ruby red gem is a soft and and supple Bordeaux-style blend that is very drinkable right now with hints of blueberry, blackberry and plum. This wine is a blend of four varieties - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah & Cabernet Franc - grown at the Aldercreek Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. This delightful and affordable wine will please any lover of hearty quaffing wines with an eye for quality.

SYRAH - $12.99 - A classic Syrah of the Rhone area in France, but from the Aldercreek Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA of Washington State. This wine is like a good Italian red, it needs to breathe! With the heavy and dark aromas of blackberry and currants, with a touch of licorice, all surrounded by a gentle reminder of oak barrel aging, you know you have a handful here!! Open it up and kick around the kitchen a while before getting down to business with this one….decanting is a possibility as well. Very yummy when it opens up.

CABERNET - $14.99 (reg $15.99) - This wine show's a forward bright red fruit with well developed structure, a long finish and velvety mouthfeel that gives away to the aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, nutmeg, sweet oak and spices. The finish show's intricate flavors of raspberries, ripe cherries and unsweetened chocolate. This wine makes an incredible match with a good sirloin steak and any other meat roasted or grilled.

MERLOT - $14.99 (reg $15.99) - "Lush" Merlot flavors with sweet vanilla oak flavors and a long balanced finish round this Merlot out. Hints of Chambord (wild blackberry), marion berry and logan berry's. Another classic to enjoy with meats and cheeses.

FRIDAY NIGHT TASTING - 4:30 until 6:30

Since it has been warmer than usual we will be mixing up some PORT TONICS this week. Take WHITE PORT and TONIC - 50/50 - toss in a slice of lime and you have one of the best ways to refresh yourself.

Then we will be trying an Italian white CARPINETO'S DOGAJOLO. Made from 40% Chardonnay, 30% Grechetto and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. (if you are filling in the Century Sheet you will be able to mark off Grechetto this week)

WHAT'S NEW?

We got in the painted glass pieces that we found at the Gift Show.

There are vases, tea light table pieces, picture frames, light catchers and business card holders.

Two grape designs - ARBOR and WINE & CHEESE and a few LIGHT HOUSE pieces.

Check them out when you are in.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND DES MOINES?

The Waterfront Farmers Market opens this Saturday. Are you ready to visit the great vendors and see what treats they have this year. Well, head down to the south end of the Marina between 10 & 2.

Get signed up for the NINTH CORKYCRUSH. There are limited spaces and we need to order grapes real soon. What would a crush be without grapes? Stop by and pick up a sign up sheet or we can e-mail one to you if that would be easier. It only takes two people to form a team and have some fun.

We also need helpers. Picture takers, juice weighers, set up and clean up and of course the ever popular BARREL BOYS! They are the most important - without clean barrels and fresh fruit the crushers would have a terrible time.

And if you are looking for an evenings entertainment close to home during July then check into attending BREEDERS THEATERS production of "The Last Magician". Opening night is July 10th and tickets are available now.

HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!
