What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

Week of August 15, 2009 - What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

THIS WEEK'S TASTING - SATURDAY AUG 15 - 11 am until 6 pm

Since this is Washington Wine Month we are offering a couple more Washington wines. TILDIO RIESLING - $15.99 - both floral and clean, with crisp acidity, very much in the style of a Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Kabinett-style wine from Germany. Aromas of lychee, apricot, peach, green apples and pears, and ripe mangoes with a touch of schist and petrol. The finish is smooth and refreshing and very clean leaving no aftertaste but a wonderful memory. (from website)

TILDIO IDEAL - $18.99 - a beautiful blend of Chardonnay and Viognier with just a touch of new French oak. This rich, fruit-forward wine shows aromas of Asian pear, honey, apricot and very slight vanilla. This is fruity without being sweet, lush and round in the mouth with a brighter, yet rounder finish than you'd expect from this composition. (from website)

EL BUHO (Spanish for Owl, in honor of the Great Horned Owl that resides on the property) - $27.99 - a big, robust red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah - exemplifying what is rapidly becoming a classic Washington red wine style. This wine is not for the faint of heart so if you love big bold red wines then this is for you! A hearty and not-so-subtle nose of plums, blackberries, black cherries and smoke, all of this follows through to the palate to offer up one of the great wines we've ever produced. Drinking beautifully now, this wine is perfect for grilled steaks, lamb and game dishes. Would also work perfectly as an accompaniment to dark chocolate. (from website)

TOURMALET - $23.99 - is a very pretty, lighter styled red wine (this does not mean that it's a wimp under any circumstances) made up of a blend of Pinot Noir with a slight splash of Syrah to lend complexity. Generous layers of red berries with haunting earthy and meaty notes that bring in the best floral characteristics of both the Pinot Noir and the Syrah, make this a very popular wine here at the winery. The finish shows hints of cherries and blueberries with some earthy spice notes on a medium finish. This is a perfect summer-time red that pairs perfectly with salmon, pork or a rich triple-cream Brie. (from website)

And, we will also be featuring NEFERIOUS.

MORE TASTING NOTES.......

NEFARIOUS VIOGNIER - Defiance Vineyard Lake Chelan AVA Estate Grown - $19.99 - Web Site Tasting Notes: Bursting with aromatics of white peach and floral notes. Delicate flavors or pear and grapefruit finishing with a hint of minerality.

NEFARIOUS SYRAH - Defiance Vineyard Lake Chelan AVA Estate Grown - $27.99 - Web Site Tasting Notes: Aromatically layered with licorice, saturated dark red fruit, and super ripe cherry fruit leather. This wine is really generous, dense and rich with grippy, subtly textural tannins. It's packed with flavors of deep black cherry, dark current, and a bit of earthiness. And to top it all off, just slightly floral thanks to the addition of a 5% Viognier co-ferment.

And just one more to tempt your palate.......NORTHWEST TOTEM CELLARS LATE HARVEST VIOGNIER - $25.99 - from Elerding Vineyard is a floral, tropical fruit resort with a delicacy of enhancing sweetness without trespassing on the palate. Pineapple, pear and passion fruit are just part of the flavor tour. The amber color exudes this wine’s clean finish. Though dessert wines are normally served in small stemware, this is one you may want to enjoy in a larger vessel to allow the aromatics to play equal billing. (from web site)

FRIDAY NIGHT TASTING - AUG. 14 - 4 UNTIL 6 PM

We have all had Chardonnay but one from Italy is a bit different to find! Here is a chance to see how an Italian Chard will compare to what you are used to.

And our second wine will be Liber Pater Ciro Rosso Classico Superiore - 100 per cent Gaglioppo - Light cherry red in the glass. Spicy, dried cherry, lightly floral on the nose. Light to medium bodied, good mouthfeel, spicy, dried flowers, cherry, soft in the mouth, drying, cocoa, good acidity, very light bitter bite, dusty. Reminded me a bit of Chianti. Drying, spicy finish. (from WineLovers Discussion Group web site)
