We will be doing something fun this Saturday - highlighing some very unique (or maybe a little eccentric) wines from Washington. Eaton Hill is the winery and the wines will be ---------------- 2007 ORANGE MUSCAT -- $13.99 “Most often, this variety of Muscat is the stuff of dessert wines. Ed Stear turned this crop from Rogers Vineyards into a uniquely dry and descriptive interpretation. Tropical notes of lychee, banana, spearmint, and nutmeg leap out of the glass and carry on in full-flavored fashion. Its viscous midpalate allows the flavors to hang, and ample acidity gives it the stuff to pair with frittatas joined by a touch of chili pepper.” Just three cases remaining. Outstanding! Wine Press Northwest magazine, Winter 2009. (MOST PEOPLE DON'T MAKE A DRY MUSCAT) 2006 GAMAY -- $15.99 “Very little Gamay is planted in the Northwest, yet this wine might make the argument for more. It’s a delicious and straightforward red with aromas of plums, blackberries, and strawberries and flavors of plums and blackberries. A hint of chocolate provides depth. It’s not a wine you need to sit around and contemplate—just enjoy it with lasagna.” Excellent, Wine Press Northwest magazine, Fall 2008. 2005 CABERNET SAUVIGNON (Gold Foil) – $13.99 Milk chocolate, soft caramel, ripe plums, cedar and a hint of allspice. Hershey's chocolate bar components met by plums and finished with notes of raspberry-chocolate on the palate. From Konnowac Vineyards, one of the oldest in the Yakima Valley. Fifteen months on Hungarian oak. Silver Medal, West Coast Wine Competition, May 2009. 2005 CABERNET SAUVIGNON (Silver Foil) -- $30.99 Konnowac Vineyards. Heavy dark European chocolate, Hershey’s caramel, fragrant vanilla, five-spice, and nutmeg vouch for this wine having spent 29 months in American oak. Chocolate bar components enhanced by rich black fruit with blackberry and blueberry overtones. Silver Medal, San Diego International Wine Competition, May 2009; Certificate of Merit, Jefferson Cup, Kansas City, MO, June 2009. (NOT MANY WINERIES AGE A CAB FOR 29 MONTHS SO IT WILL BE FUN TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO CABERNETS) “SUN GLOW” Lot 06 -- $15.99 The winery’s biggest seller. A medium sweet Riesling blended with organic hand-macerated nectarines from Eaton Hill Orchards. The aromatics and flavors are one in the same with syrupy peaches, honey, apricot, butter, nutmeg, rosewater and lemon curd. There is enough acidity to lift this and make it a serious wine while at the same time deliciously attractive as a gateway to newcomers. (HOW MANY WINERIES DO YOU KNOW THAT PUT NECTARINES IN WITH THEIR RIESLING?)
