What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

Week of Nov. 14, 2009 - What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

THIS WEEK'S TASTING - SATURDAY, NOV. 14 - 11 UNTIL 6

We will be featuring wines from EBERLE out of Paso Robles this weekend. ESTATE CHARDONNAY - $15.99 - exhibits a combination of lemon-lime citrus aromas with rich flavors of pineapple, pear and green apple rounded by just a touch of vanilla oak. A delightful, crowd-pleasing wine to accompany a variety of cuisine or simply enjoy by the glass!

COTES-DU-ROBLES - $15.99 - represents the nature of Paso Robles terroir. This wine exhibits an intense purple hue with complex layers of rich fruit flavors, hints of earth and minerality supported by moderate tannins with a hint of sweet oak. A blend of three recognized Rhone varietals, the complex finess of this wine should be enjoyed as an everyday addition to your dining experience.

VINEYARD SELECT CABERNET - $20.99 - displays 100% varietal characteristics blended from five distinguished Paso Robles vineyards, including the Eberle Estate vineyard. Approachable and enjoyable in its youth, lush with flavors of wild berries, cassis and moderate tannins, it is also worthy of aging for several years.

STEINBECK/WINE BUSH VINEYARDS ZINFANDEL - $22.99 - showcases two of Paso Robles finest Zinfandel vineyards: the reputable Steinbeck Vineyard contributes layers of sweet briar fruit with hints of earth and minerality blended with Wine Bush offering robust color and rich, jammy flavors of prune, ripe blackberry and a peppery finish. This is an exquisite example of Zinfandel displaying a well-balanced combination of elegance with richness of fruit and depth.

MUSCAT CANELLI - $15.99 - Reveals floral aromas of orange blossom and ripe melon integrated with hints of citrus and bursts of guava and nectarine, culminating in a finish laced with spice. Crisp and semi-sweet, this wine is a surprising delight to enjoy with every occasion and a diversity of fare from creme brulee to foie gras.

FRIDAY NIGHT TASTING - 4 until 6:30 -

Just because it is Friday the 13th we won't have any mystical magical wines but do have a couple of new ones to share with you.

GIRARDET WINE CELLARS from the Umpqua Valley pioneered this French vine on the West Coast and remains one of the few producers. The wine is BACO NOIR. Displays a deep crimson color with great legs. Sweet, vibrant aromas of sun ripened fruits with a little toasted vanilla. Silky fruit flavors build slowly and then linger on with toasty, spicy flavors in the finish. Incredibly drinkable with a luscious mouth feel. Moderately oaked. Try with pastas, spicy meats, or a chocolate & berry fondue! (from Girardet's web site)

COELHO WINERY from Amity Oregon makes a MARECHAL FOCH (pronounced "mar-esh-shall-fosh) that we will be offering. It is used to make a variety of styles of wine, ranging from a light red wine similar to Beaujolais, to more extracted wines with intense dark "inky" purple colour and unique varietal character, to sweet, fortified, port-style wines. Wines made from Marechal Foch tend to have strong acidity, aromas of black fruits and, in some cases, toasted wheat, mocha, fresh coffee, bitter chocolate, vanilla bean, and musk. In the darker variants of the wine a strong gamey nose is also often described. Highly extracted, and more carefully produced wines made from older plantings of Marechal Foch have recently been successfully marketed as more expensive niche cult wines with a dedicated following. Stop by and try these varietals - you never know when you may find a new favorite!
