What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

Week of March 20, 2010 - What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

THIS WEEK'S TASTING - SAT MARCH 20 - 11 until 6

If you were at the Poverty Bay Wine Festival you may have meet Bruce from CANYON'S EDGE. We are happy to have him join us this Saturday to show off more of their line up of wines. We will be featuring the following: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ SAUVIGNON BLANC - $13.99 -This wine is dry crisp and has pink grapefruit, lemon grass, lime and citrus flavors. The finish is of butter cream and smoke. Pair this wine with a citrus or Caesar salad with grilled shrimp or smoked chicken, cedar planked salmon, smoked trout, grilled oysters or steamed clams with butter.

SAGEBRUSH RED - $10.99 (reg. $12.99) - This is an eclectic blend of four Estate grown red grape varietals which include 60% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Franc. This wine is a complex, full-bodied harmonious red wine. The pleasant flavors of blackberries, dark cherries, chocolate, cassis and sweet prunes give this wine an intense and lingering finish. This wine will go very well with grilled and aged red meats like blackened rib-eye or New York Strip steak, roasted rack of lamb, roasted bison, hard cheeses such as parmigiano reggiano, and pecorino romano. For dessert, pair this wonderful wine with chocolate truffles.

SANGIOVESE - $14.99 - The flavors are of robust dark berries, black cherries, boysenberries, ripe currents and raspberries with a spicy and earthy finish. It has a long and intense lingering finish from the combination of French oak and fruit flavors. Food pairings include pasta with meat or marinara sauce, roasted duck breast with orange sauce, filet mignon with béarnaise sauce, roasted veal shank with vegetables and pizza.

CABERNET - $13.99 (reg $15.99) - This wine show's a forward bright red fruit with well developed structure, a long finish and velvety mouthfeel that gives away the aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, nutmeg sweet oak and spices. The finish show's intricate flavors of raspberries, ripe cherries and unsweetened chocolate. This Wine makes an incredible match with a good sirloin steak and any roasted or grilled meat.

JEREMIAH'S CHOCOLATE - $18.99 (REG $19.99) - This wine speaks for itself! A rich and fruity Syrah blended with chocolate flavoring to create a very unique and delicious wine. Enjoy with dessert, on its own or in a reduction sauce over strawberries, cheesecake or chocolate treats. ^^^^^^^^ tasting note taken from Canyon's Edge Winery website.

POVERTY BAY BIG BOTTLE WINNER

Congratulations to Richard Maddox
Congratulations to Richard Maddox
What a nice present for attending the 6th Annual Poverty Bay Wine Festival. The Des Moines Rotary Club hopes that Richard enjoys his "Salmanazar" of Five Star Cellars Cabernet. (Salmanazar = 12 bottles = 9.6 litres)

Someone out there is enjoying a beautiful etched bottle that disappered off of Page Cellars table. The bottle is etched with butterflies and was loaned to Jim and Rothelle Page to decorate their booth at the festival. One thing is that if someone thought they were getting wine they only got colored water. Maybe the bottle will show up on the Landmark Event Center doorstep.

If you were at the 'NIGHT IN THE VINEYARD" Gala and purchased your 'Sparkle in the Vineyard' champagne with a possible diamond (or cubic zirconia) don't forget to take it to Kimberly's Exquisite Jewels on 7th and have her check it out. As of today 3-17 the diamond has not shown up.

Check out the video from the Wine Festival
