What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

Week of May 22, 2010 - What's Happening at CorkyCellars?

THIS WEEK'S TASTING - SAT. MAY 22 - 11 am until 6 pm

We will be featuring WILRIDGE WINERY from Seattle this week. 2008 PINOT GRIGIO TWO COYOTE VINEYARD YAKIMA VALLEY - $17.99 - Winery Tasting Notes: Crisp, clean & fresh. The 2008 Wilridge Pinot Grigio has wonderful crisp citrus notes on the nose with mellow lemon custard and a hint of vanilla on the finish. A superb summertime wine that pairs well with light fare including oysters, chicken, or nothing at all. Fermented in stainless steel using Northern Italian low oxygen winemaking techniques to preserve freshness and flavor

2007 NEBBIOLO OLD VINES RED MOUNTAIN - $30.99 - Just Released - Trivia: “Nebbiolo” is old Italian dialect for “Noble.” In Italy, Nebbiolo is called the “Wine of Kings.”

2008 SANGIOVESE END OF THE ROAD VINEYARD RED MOUNTAIN - $30.99 - Just Released

2008 RED MOUNTAIN MELANGE (BORDEAUX BLEND) ARTZ VINEYARD - $30.99 - Just Released

2003 MERLOT KLIPSUN VINEYARDS RED MOUNTAIN - $20.99 (reg. $30.99 ) Winemaker Comments: “Klipsun Merlot is never a wimpy wine (I like to say that it is Merlot for people who like to drink Cabernet) and can take several years to soften and develop in the bottle. At six years old, the 2003 is ready to drink. A classic match is Merlot with lamb, but I also like it with simpler fare, like a grilled hamburger. Delicious!"

FRIDAY NIGHT TASTING - FRIDAY MAY 21 - 4 until 6:30

We found a couple more new varietals for you to try and mark off of your Century Club sheet if you are keeping track.

BENAZA GODELLO -$14.99 - has nice weight on the palate and flavors of green melon, apple, a touch of citrus and distinct notes of slate on the finish. Impressive complexity for something at this price. A varietal from the Galician area in north west Spain.

PAGO DE VALDONEJE MENCIA - $14.99 - The Mencia grapes come from 5 hectares of estate vineyards located in Valtuille de Abajo. The vines are anywhere from 50 to 100 years old providing rich dark grapes that are full-bodied and robust. For three generations this family has been making wine. Up until the 2001 vintage, the present patriarch, Marcos Garcia, continued the tradition of making wine only for family and friends in the surrounding region. As the reputation and demand for the wine grew, however, he decided to offer small quantities to other markets with the US being the first export opportunity.

Hope you can stop by and explore these two varietals with us.

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY....

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all sing that little diddy and blue skies would show up?

But what the heck, this is Seattle and we are tough when it comes to weather. Give us a good bottle of wine, good company, good food and life is great.

Have a great day and thank you very much for all of your support.
