For our white this week we will be trying WEISSBURGUNDER from Austria. (Also known as Pinot Blanc in other parts of the world.) Ripe pears and fleshy melon-like notes (as well as faint nutty tones) combine in its richly aromatic taste sensations and harmonious finish. An ideal food wine. (winery web site notes)
And from here in Washington we will sample DAVENLORE WINERY DURIF. Wine Lore: The small, deep purple grape of this variety suffers an identity crisis. Developed in Montpellier, France in 1880 by Francois Durif, we chose the traditional name, after the grape's creator. This cross between Pelourisin and Syrah is often called Petite Sirah. We choose to call it by the traditional name because there is nothing petite about this wine. Enjoy! (winery web site notes)

The Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market opened last Saturday with a bang. The weather was great and it drew a large crowd. Ths week enjoy the music of guitarist Charlie Spring from 10 until 2 while you stroll through. It is time to start checking with the vendors to see what will be available in the next few weeks. The flowers always make a gray day bright and I heard the Honey people and Pasta folks had some great stuff.
